Barry’s Diary - May 2010

01.05.2010

Hi Everybody

As we enter summer, it feels a little like the approach of winter to me, having just suffered the loss of my father George, a quiet and unassuming man who thanks to all my staff, family and friends and the people of Bermondsey, was given the most beautiful funeral with a full church at The Most Holy Trinity, Dockhead. I know if my Dad could have said anything, it would have been ‘Son, we’re at the wrong church – there’s far too many people here for me’
Well Dad, you deserve each and every one of them.
He was a fine man with an excellent record.

May I take this opportunity of thanking everyone who sent kind messages in cards, letters and telephone calls and stopped me in the street with messages of condolence. Also for the lovely floral tributes and donations that we received in memory of my Dad. – That’s Bermondsey for you – None better – None as good!

As I put one foot in front of the other, as you do in bereavement, it widens my thoughts to the things that have happened recently in the business; The development of our Kenyon Repatriation business to Albin International Repatriation and the planning for its new premises, the opening of the lovely new branch in Welling and members of staff who are receiving promotion and new members who are joining us shortly.

I would like to congratulate our friend and marvellous MP Simon Hughes on his re-election and send our commiserations to an excellent candidate Val Shawcross. We also send congratulations to Peter Johns, the new Head of Southwark Council.

We also now plan and look forward to our Party in the Park on September 18th which will be run by myself, John Donovan and The Southwark News – What a bash that will be with our star, the wonderful Rose Marie. Tickets are not available through us but via Chris & Kevin at The Southwark News.

Finally, I would like to pay homage and a big vote of thanks to the most wonderful group of staff who are also friends and family, who rallied round both myself and my sons and kept everything running to perfection through our difficult times.

Bless them all and bless you all

Until next time,

Best wishes
