Hello again,

The opening of the new shop in Sidcup was a wonderful day for me, my father, Fred, and of course Simon and Jonathan, who had sole responsibility for creating the shop and its opening. As I walked into the shop for the first time, I was truly overwhelmed with emotion to see what my two sons had done. It is incredible. They have managed to incorporate much of the old with the new. Beautiful decoration and space, peaceful and tranquil chapels, with comfortable, private arranging rooms.

I wish Michael Thorpe every success as the new Manager of this shop and know that families of old will share this wonderful building with families of new.

It was with much sadness, but also pride and honour that I repatriated the 15 air crew and military from the tragic accident that occurred on 2nd September, when the Nimrod aircraft crashed in Afghanistan. As always, the ceremony of their return was emotional and took place in Kinloss, their home base.

Having met and helped all the families after the ceremony, my heartfelt condolences go to them all and it reminds me as ever that all that is, is forever – only the shell passes away.

We have just come to the end of our fund raising drive for The Evelina Children’s Charity and we will shortly be pushing with a new committee for much needed funds for future growth of this wonderful children’s hospital.

It was with sadness that we recently heard of the death of Father Nick Richards, Parish Priest of St. Mary’s Rotherhithe for the last 29 years. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time. May he rest in peace.

We are preparing our Christmas Memorial Service. As always lots of new things mixed with the old. Do come along – 7pm on 6th December.

We are pleased to see the garden recovering from the drought and is once again looking green and lush and the fish are also thriving.

I’ve just been asked to play a wise man in a Christmas Nativity. I’m not sure that was a good choice by the vicar but I’m not going to argue!

We were very pleased to attend on 2nd September, the wedding of David Spalding our embalmer, who has been with us since school days and Tracey, a mortician from St. Thomas’ Hospital. As they begin a new life together our congratulations and best wishes go with them.

That’s all for now.

Cheerio
