Barry's Diary

Hello again,

I would like to begin by wishing you all a very happy and peaceful Easter.

The garden is particularly pretty at this time of year with daffodils, tulips and crocuses poking up their heads and the rockery coming into colour.

On the ridge of our garden, we have put our 1860 horsedrawn hearse and a Shillingbury wheel bier from a church vault. They are creating quite a bit of interest as people go into the garden.

Our horseman Nick is at present buying four young stallion Friesians from our Dutch farm friends. We are looking forward to them arriving in the next month or so, when they will begin a long process of training and care – also enjoying many free days in the field.

The doves are also breeding in the garden and things always seem nicer and cleaner at this time of year and with the new fleet arriving in about four weeks, we are all very excited.

We are very sad, but very proud to be undertaking the funeral of the late Bishop Charles Henderson. The funeral will take place after a lying in state in St. George’s Cathedral.

A huge responsibility for us but one we are very proud to undertake.

We were faced with an awful shock last evening, when our local primary school St. Joseph’s, of which I am the Chair of Governors, caught fire destroying the building.

Fortunately, the children were on holiday and the staff and workmen in the school at the time were able to evacuate the building safely and there were no casualties.

We are now faced with a whole period of turmoil and reconstruction, but buildings can always be rebuilt as long as people have not been harmed or lost. It was a blessing that this happened during the school holidays.

My best wishes to you all until next month
